Underground
Service Alert (USA) is a Regional Notification
System which allows homeowners, do-it-yourselfers,
and contractors to call one
telephone number to protect buried utilities
from being damaged by digging or excavating. Member
utility organizations can identify their buried
utilities prior to digging in the area.
Call 811 BEFORE
you do the following:
- Planting Trees
- Trenching
- Digging Fence Post Holes
- Drainage Ditches
- Drilling or Boring
- Soil Ripping
- Grading, etc.

WHEN
YOU CALL, you will be asked to
supply information pertaining to your
proposed digging. Each member organization which
has buried facilities in that location, depending
on their location policy, will provide information
about, or locate and identify the location of
its facility.
ADVANCE
NOTICE – Please
call UPC three (3) working days prior to actual
work. When extensive work is planned, please
submit copies of drawings at least two (2) weeks
before actual work. There is no charge for this
service.
IF
YOU DON’T CALL YOU BREAK THE LAW
– Violators
can be fined from $1,000 to $3,000. And
you could be assessed the cost of repairing any
damaged facilities, plus any personal injuries
that result. By calling 72 hours before you dig
(excluding holidays and weekends), you’ll
be in total compliance with the law.
